Issu d’une technique et d’un art, le cristal Baccarat allie harmonieusement le savoir-faire et la
créativité. Ayant accompagné depuis sa création - et parfois précédé - toutes les évolutions
esthétiques et décoratives de la société française, la maison Baccarat est devenue depuis le début du
XXe siècle un lieu privilégié où les créateurs s’expriment en toute liberté. De l’absolue complicité entre
les artistes et les artisans, de leur complémentarité, de la richesse de ces collaborations à “quatre mains”
résultent des objets singuliers, chargés d’esprit, riches en imaginaire et en audace.
Les années 2000 sont un tournant créatif décisif pour Baccarat, marqué par la volonté de s’inscrire
dans une modernité en phase avec son époque sans jamais transiger sur sa vocation d’excellence.
La rencontre avec le mythique designer italien Ettore Sottsass en 2002 suivie par celle avec l’architecte-
designer William Sawaya sont autant de signes forts d’évolution. Suivront des collections signées
Kenzo Takada, Arik Levy et Jaime Hayon. 2010 marque le début de collaborations avec le designer
hollandais Marcel Wanders et le lighting designer Yann Kersalé, partenaire privilégié de l’architecte
JeanNouvel.
En 2003, le choix de Philippe Starck pour imaginer le décor fantasmagorique de la Maison Baccarat à
Paris, qui sera suivi en 2008 par l’ouverture d’une Maison Baccarat à Moscou, marqua le début d’une
collaboration capitale. Le designer a immédiatement capté l’âme de la maison, et la synergie possible
entre son regard iconoclaste et pertinent sur Baccarat, la belle endormie. Il permet à la marque
d’accompagner son développement vers une nouvelle ambition, et de magnifier son identité en
puisant dans son ADN. Rigoureux, et tour à tour émotionnel, ludique, enfantin, visionnaire, Philippe
Starck et en osmose absolue avec Baccarat. Une série de succès planétaires signés Starck redonne
aussi à la marque valeur de luxe et de séduction : le lustre Zénith noir, le bougeoir Our Fire font
de Baccarat un nouveau “trend setter”.

Baccarat crystal combines savoir-faire and creativity in both technique and art. Remaining in tune with
and even spearheading stylistic and decorative trends in France, Baccarat has been a unique place,
offering designers a free reign beginning with the early twentieth century. The seamless collaboration
between the artists and the craftsmen, the wealth of this “four-handed” joint effort produces unique
objects imbued with spirit, imagination and audacity.
The years 2000-10 were a creative benchmark for Baccarat, a firm committed to modern design
combined with an unshakeable dedication to excellence. Key signs of growth include the projects with
legendary Italian designer Ettore Sottsass in 2002, followed by works with architect-designer William
Sawaya. Next came collections by Kenzo Takada, Arik Levy and Jaime Hayon. In 2010, Baccarat has
started working with Dutch designer Marcel Wanders and with lighting designer Yann Kersalé, who
works closely with architect Jean Nouvel.
In 2003, the choice of Philippe Starck to conjure up a magical decor for the Maison Baccarat in Paris,
followed by the opening of the Maison Baccarat in Moscow, signaled the start of a new partnership.
The designer immediately captured the synergy between his keen and iconoclastic vision and the
spirit of Baccarat-a sleeping beauty. With Starck, the company could aim toward greater heights and
expand its identiy by nurturing its own DNA. A series of Starck’s highly successful global projects
enhanced Baccarat’s alluring and luxurious image. Philippe Starck-in turn rigorous, sensitive, playful,
childish and visionary-is completely in tune with Baccarat. The black Zénith chandelier, the darkside
collection, the Our Fire candlestick have turned Baccarat into a new tendsetter.
