Perfectly bisected by the border between the two
sides of the island, Oyster Pond is a charming little
bay that is almost closed off from the sea. Only a
small channel allows boats to sail in and out.
This geographic particularity makes it an ideal natural
hurricane shelter. For this reason, two large pleasure
boat rental companies have made it their base. On
the north side of the Bay, Captain Oliver’s Marina has
been a fixture for many years, a popular port of call
for serious sailors, who tend to break their journey
there and then stay longer than they had intended.
It is true that the infrastructure, the services and the
shopping opportunities to be found right beside
the slips are ideally suited to life on a boat. Captain
Oliver’s restaurant, that has been a feature of the
bay since the 1980s, is an island landmark. As the
marina is the port of arrival and departure for the
Voyager ferries to St Barth, it’s the ideal place to
have a drink before setting sail for new horizons...
