SAINT

BARTHÉLEMY

The Bay of Saint Jean is the most popular

beach on the island but also the beach most

frequented by celebrities. At its center is a hotel

on a small rocky promontory that is at the origin

of its fame, the Eden Rock.

This iconic establishment has attracted celebrity

visitors for more than 60 years. It was built by

Rémy de Haenen, an entrepreneur, pilot and

adventurer, who found it practical to live just steps

away from the dusty runway perpendicular to the

beach that he would later make into an airport.

And so, Greta Garbo, Robert Mitchum and Howard

Hughes all stayed at the hotel and contributed,

unwittingly, to the celebrity of the island and of the

Bay of Saint Jean. Today, other hotels at the water’s

edge, especially the famous Nikki Beach, have taken

over from Eden Rock.

Over time, Saint Jean has become the most important

economic and tourist center of St Barth. The celebrity

legend is perpetuated by the escapades of tabloid

personalities from all over the world, but the quality of

the hotels, restaurants, and boutiques and the standard

of service and entertainment provided every evening ensure

the true reputation of excellence of this iconic destination.
